Biography:

Julia Rees is head of the EMEA and Asia Strategic Advisory Solutions Portfolio Strategy team at Goldman Sachs Asset Management. As a Senior Portfolio Strategist, she advises financial institutions and intermediaries on investment policy and strategy.

Prior to joining the Portfolio Strategy team, Julia worked in quantitative investment strategies (QIS) product management with an emphasis on alternative investing. Prior to joining the firm, Julia worked at a mid-stage private biotechnology company bringing a medical device to market. There, she focused on the firm’s expansion strategy and evaluated potential mergers and acquisitions.

Julia holds a B.S.E. in mechanical engineering with minors in computer science and robotics from Princeton University. She is a CFA charterholder.

The financial uplift of diversity in asset and wealth management

This session quantifies the financial uplift that diversity delivers in the asset and wealth management industries. We undertook this work because while the social case for diversity is clear, the financial and investment implications are often less well-understood. We analysed thousands of portfolios built by Goldman Sachs Asset Management clients and found some important differences in how diverse teams build portfolios compared to single-gender teams. We share the investment implications for portfolio constructors and fund selectors. We also orient our findings within the broader landscape of studies on diversity.
